Which car should you rent in St Kitts?
Most couples and small families are fine in the Economy. The island is small, the main road is paved all the way round, and the distances are short, so a small car does the job and is the easiest to park in Basseterre. Move up a class when you have more luggage, more people, or plan to use the rougher tracks.
| Type | Seats | Bags | Per day | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | 5 | 2 | US$65 | Couples, cruise days, the paved island loop |
| Intermediate | 5 | 3 | US$75 | A bigger boot for longer stays |
| Intermediate SUV | 5 | 3 | US$85 | A higher seat and more room behind the seats |
| SUV 4WD | 5 | 4 | US$95 | Rough tracks on the Southeast Peninsula and back roads |
| 7 Seater | 7 | 4 | US$130 | Groups of six or seven in one vehicle |
Every car is automatic with air conditioning. We rent by type rather than by model, so you book the class you need and get that car or a similar one from the same class.
Economy
A small automatic that is easy to park and good on fuel. It seats five and takes two suitcases, which suits most visitors staying in Frigate Bay or coming off a ship for the day.
Intermediate
A saloon with more room than the Economy and a bigger boot. Worth it if two of you are travelling with full-size luggage.
Intermediate SUV
A compact crossover. You sit higher, it carries the same five people, and there is more room behind the seats. The most comfortable option for a week on the island on paved roads.
SUV 4WD
Four wheel drive for the rougher tracks on the Southeast Peninsula and the back roads inland. You do not need it for the main road or the beaches in Frigate Bay, but it is the right car if you plan to get off the asphalt.
7 Seater
Seven seats, so a group of six or seven travels together. US$130 a day.
What is included in the rate?
The daily rate covers the car, air conditioning, and pickup and return at any of our three locations. There is no separate fee for collecting at the airport, Port Zante or our Basseterre office, and no fee for delivery to a Frigate Bay hotel. We track your flight if you give us the number, and we issue the temporary driving permit when you collect, unless you have already bought one online. The booking form shows your full total, including any extras you add, before you pay.

There is no minimum rental, so a cruise day is one day at the daily rate. For a longer stay, send us your dates and we will quote you. For every cost explained in detail, see how much it costs to rent a car in St Kitts.
Where can you pick up the car?
Port Zante, Basseterre. We meet cruise passengers a short walk from the terminal. See car rental from the cruise port.
Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. We meet you at arrivals with the car. See airport car rental.
Our Basseterre office in Greenlands. Open 7am to 6pm, seven days a week.
Your hotel in Frigate Bay. Free delivery and collection to any hotel, condo or villa in Frigate Bay. See car rental in Frigate Bay.
You can collect at one location and return at another, at no charge.
What do you need to rent?
A valid driving licence from home, your passport or photo ID, and a St Kitts temporary driving permit. We arrange the permit at the handover, which adds about ten minutes, so there is nothing to sort out before you travel. If you would rather have it in hand when you land, you can buy it yourself through the Police e-services portal, entering your flight number or ship name in the Name of Vessel field. Drivers must be 25 or over. Traffic drives on the left, and every car we rent is automatic. Our guide to the temporary driving permit covers the online application step by step.
Questions about our cars and rates
How much does it cost to rent a car in St Kitts?
From US$65 a day for an automatic Economy car, with free pickup at the airport, cruise port or our Basseterre office. Larger cars run from US$75 to US$130 a day.
Are your cars automatic?
Yes. Every car we rent is automatic with air conditioning.
What car will I actually get?
A car from the type you book, or a similar one from the same class. We rent by type, so you choose by seats, luggage and the roads you plan to drive rather than by badge.
Do I need a 4WD in St Kitts?
Not for the main road, the beaches or the island loop, which are all paved. You need it only if you plan to drive the rough tracks on the Southeast Peninsula or the back roads inland.
Is there a weekly rate?
Not a published one. There is no minimum and no surcharge for short rentals, so a few days is simply that many days at the daily rate. For a longer stay, send us your dates and we will quote you.
Can we fit a family of six in one car?
Yes. Book the 7 Seater, US$130 a day.
Is the deposit refundable?
Yes. The US$200 deposit is returned when the car comes back as it went out.
